As with the Schmittenhöhe mountain railway, dogs also need their own ticket for the ascent with the Kitzsteinhorn cable cars to the glacier area or the Maiskogel. There are day tickets available, but you can also buy a 7-day ticket or an annual pass. Like in all public areas, dogs must wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash in the gondolas. Even if a leash is not required on the mountain, it is recommended that you keep your dog on a leash. The staff at the restaurants on the mountain and in the Gipfelwelt are happy to welcome dogs, but you are not allowed to take your four-legged friend onto the pistes.

The Kaprun high mountain reservoirs lie like turquoise fjords surrounded by mighty mountain walls, and are a fascinating excursion destination - perfect for a day out with your dog! To be able to bring your dog to the reservoir, you need a separate ticket for your four-legged friend. Dogs must be kept on a leash and need to wear a muzzle in the means of transport and during the tour of the dam wall: dogs are generally allowed (exceptions possible in case of aggressive behaviour), a muzzle can be borrowed at the Kesselfall ticket office.
Sigmund Thun Gorge
An absolute favourite hiking destination for dog owners is the Sigmund Thun Gorge with the associated Klammsee reservoir and the Bürgkogel. Here are numerous convenient dog stations as well as a spacious dog park near the reservoir, where dogs can roam freely to their heart's content. If you are travelling for a longer period of time, the ascents should be as shaded as possible. Don't forget to pack enough water as well as food and treats for both of you. You also need to plan for breaks.
Dogs and grazing animals
If you pass grazing animals when out with your dog, please follow the necessary rules to avoid frightening the grazing animals. It is important to give herds of suckler cows a wide berth. Never touch young animals: your dog should be kept on a leash. In an emergency, let the dog run so that it can get to safety. You should then retreat slowly and calmly. Do not run!
Going swimming with your dog
The cooling water in Zell am See-Kaprun beckons especially on hot summer days: How convenient that Lake Zell is right there in front of you.
Dogs also love to cool down in high temperatures, and are happy to take a dip in the lake. There is no special dog beach in the region, but as long as the leash and muzzle requirements are observed, there is nothing to stop dogs from splashing around in the water. The exceptions are the lidos and official bathing areas: Here, unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the water.
