Winter hiking & snowshoeing Discover pristine nature
When a thick blanket of snow covers meadows, forests and mountains, snowshoe tours and winter hikes invite you to discover winter in Zell am See-Kaprun from its most beautiful side.
On your own or on a guided tour, snowshoe hikes take you into a pristine winter landscape, through the forest and to vantage points. Where clearly marked hiking trails cover the mountain landscape in summer, you often have to make your own path with snowshoes in winter when there is a lot of fresh snow: this way you discover nature at your very own pace. Alternatively, walking and winter hiking trails are well cleared and also lead through idyllic natural landscapes. The best way to get an overview of the many winter hiking trails is to use the winter hiking map.

Guided snowshoe tours on the Schmittenhöhe
The Schmittenhöhe is also a winter hiking and snowshoeing area covered in deep snow. The first altitude metres are managed by cable car, and you start your winter hike high up on the mountain. Then there are two hiking trails to choose from: Along the high-altitude promenade between the Schmittenhöhebahn and the Sonnkogelbahn or around the Plettsaukopf reservoir.
On the Schmittenhöhe you can also take part in guided snowshoe hikes. Tours are available for beginners as well as for advanced snowshoe fans.
Guided snowshoe tours on the Kitzsteinhorn
Kaprun also offers numerous options for winter hiking and snowshoeing. A leisurely circular hike in the Kapruner Moos, for example, leads through the Filzmooswäldchen forest and along field tracks along the Salzach river. The Ice Camp Trail on the Kitzsteinhorn is more alpine. After an ascent by cable car, this trail leads from mid-January to mid-April to the fascinating Ice Camp presented by Audi.
