Gipfelwelt 3000 & Salzburg's highest-situated viewing platform

Even the way to the summit is an experience in itself: what was once reserved for alpinists is now easily accessible for all by gondola thanks to top technical achievements. Up to six cable cars let you glide 2,261 metres in altitude from the centre of Kaprun via the Maiskogel to the Kitzsteinhorn at over 3,000 metres above sea level. You cover a distance of twelve kilometres and can watch the landscape transform more and more into a high alpine wonderland. The ride takes just under 50 minutes and is a unique panoramic spectacle.

Your viewing platforms in Zell am See-Kaprun

Having reached 3,029 metres above sea level, you have finally arrived at Salzburg's highest-situated excursion destination: the panorama platform "Top of Salzburg" and Gipfelwelt 3000. You have now reached the highest accessible point in the federal state of Salzburg and the entire Hohe Tauern National Park region, and a sea of peaks lies at your feet. From here you have a view of the highest mountains in the Hohe Tauern National Park, you can see Lake Zell glistening in the valley and you can make out the Steinerne Meer or the Kitzbühel Alps in the distance. To help you keep an overview, information boards and telescopes explain which peak you are currently admiring.

The National Park Gallery

At the summit terminus of the Kitzsteinhorn, high above Zell am See-Kaprun, a 360-metre-long tunnel leads through the interior of the mountain to a second viewing platform, the "National Park Gallery". On your way you can stop at Cinema 3000, where a multi-award-winning film about the high alpine mountain world is shown. Then continue to the viewing platform: it offers a view of the pristine landscape of the National Park, and from here you can also see Austria's highest mountain - the Grossglockner.

Welcome to Gipfelwelt 3000

The Kitzsteinhorn is the gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park and your perfect starting point for tours in this scenically impressive area. In summer, the guided ranger tours or the guided Kitzsteinhorn summit tour "My first 3,000-metre-high peak" also start from the panorama platform on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.
The Kitzsteinhorn area is an outdoor playground for families and athletes in winter and summer: a path leads to the ICE ARENA in summer where skiers and snowboarders enjoy their turns in winter. Here is tobogganing and sliding fun on the agenda in high summer. In between, Salzburg's highest-situated restaurant invites you to stop and enjoy: Here, regional products are refined and turned into delicious favourite dishes.
