Ski tours Ski touring in Zell am See-Kaprun
Getting close to winter nature. Going your own way away from the groomed pistes. Enjoying the silence and the view: ski tours in the alpine surroundings of Zell am See-Kaprun exert a very special fascination. Here you can conquer the mountains with your own muscle power and at your own pace. The region offers numerous piste tours that are ideal for preparation and training. At the same time, winter sports enthusiasts will find the most beautiful opportunities for off-piste ski tours in pristine terrain on the Pinzgau grass mountains and in the Hohe Tauern. Here, qualified mountain guides are happy to accompany you and show you powder snow and firn classics.
Piste tours & the ski touring mountain Ronachkopf
Whether you are a ski touring novice or an experienced tourer: a piste tour is a good start to the season and ideal training in between. In Thumersbach, opposite Zell am See, there is even an entire mountain reserved just for ski tourers. The Ronachkopf offers a groomed uphill track and a rewarding descent. This tour is a total of 2.1 kilometres long and, with a difference in altitude of just under 500 metres, is also easily doable for beginners to the sport. The reward awaits at the top: a magnificent view of Lake Zell and a stop at the cosy Enzianhütte before the descent.
Ski touring routes on the Kitzsteinhorn
There are also designated ski touring routes in the high alpine surroundings of the Kitzsteinhorn: The "Schneekönigin" (Snow Queen) and the "Eisbrecher" (Icebreaker) are two ski tours that are already accessible from mid-October - perfect for all ski tourers who are looking forward to an early start to the season in autumn. Both tours start at Langwiedboden and offer an optimal training effect due to the altitude. The "Schneekönigin" leads 476 metres uphill to the Alpincenter. On the longer "Eisbrecher" you master approx. 900 metres in altitude up to the upper terminus of the Maurer lift. After a short rest at the Alpincenter, the descent follows on groomed pistes or off-piste (only with avalanche safety equipment!).
Ski tours on the Maiskogel
Every Wednesday evening during the winter season, the pistes on the Maiskogel belong to ski touring fans: Here you can put on your skins, climb and take long turns down into the valley until 8pm. Don't forget your headlamp and hot tea for refreshment! The pistes on the Maiskogel are also open daily from 8am to 6pm for ski tourers. The ski touring route on the Maiskogel offers a safe alternative to the piste tour: This route reveals impressive views of the Salzach Valley and the Zell Basin.
Guided ski tour to the Tristkogel
A classic off-piste ski tour tip is the route to the Tristkogel in the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski resort. The starting point for this tour is again the Langwiedboden gondola terminus. From here the tour leads through charming terrain towards the summit of the Tristkogel. Around 660 metres of difference in altitude have to be mastered during the three-hour ascent. Preparation and experience are necessary for a tour off-piste: Be sure to check the avalanche and weather reports, and never set off without full equipment! Once a week you can also experience this ski tour together with qualified mountain guides.
Other guided tours
A multitude of scenically impressive ski tours await you in the entire Zell am See-Kaprun region: In high winter, the Pinzgau grass mountains with the Schmittenhöhe offer particularly good conditions. From spring onwards, ski tourers are drawn to the world of the Hohe Tauern for firn snow tours. Ski touring dreams come true on the Hohe Sonnblick, Hocharn or Grossvenediger. When planning your tour, it is best to rely on the expertise of a qualified mountain and ski guide from the region: they know best about snow conditions and weather situations and will guide you safely into and through the terrain.
