The Glocknerkönig (Glockner King)
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is the undisputed king of road bike tours: there is a good reason why the "Glocknerkönig" is crowned here every year at the event of the same name, when several hundred cyclists from all over the world compete in an energy-sapping ride over the 36 hairpin bends of the pass road. 1,700 metres in altitude are covered on the way uphill to the Fuscher Törl. Of course, the most famous pass road in the Alps can also be taken outside a competition. Here it is advisable to set off early so that you can avoid the heavy traffic of day-trippers.
From the Kitzbüheler Horn to the Hochkönig
Numerous famous names await road bikers with strong legs around Zell am See-Kaprun: On the Kitzbühel Tour, you can take a detour to the Kitzbüheler Horn. This route is the decisive stage of the Tour of Austria and requires a lot of ambition and muscle power even from pros. On the Dienten Tour, you cycle from Saalfelden via Maria Alm to the Filzen Saddle. There you have the majestic Hochkönig in view and enjoy the descent to Lend. If you still have some energy left, you can cycle back to Zell am See via the Rauriser Höhe.
