Local train Pinzgau
Discover the beauty of the Alps on a trip on the Pinzgau local railway. With its views of the Pinzgau grass mountains and the natural spectacle of the Krimml waterfalls, this nostalgic ride along the Salzach has been impressing travellers for over 120 years now.
The Pinzgau local railway, also known as the Pinzgaubahn or Krimmler Bahn, is one of the most fascinating narrow-gauge railways in Austria and runs through the picturesque landscape of the Hohe Tauern. The ride through the national park begins in Zell am See. On the 53 kilometres to Krimml, you can enjoy the view of the Pinzgau grass mountains along the Salzach and feel like you've been transported back to a bygone era. Just like when the local railway was inaugurated 100 years ago, the smoke from the steam engine still rises into the sky today. Look forward to a true spectacle at the end of your train journey: the Krimml Waterfalls! They are an impressive highlight for locals and holidaymakers alike.
